Robert A. O’Hare Jr. leads O’Hare Parnagian LLP’s litigation and trial practice. He litigates securities, business, financial, insurance, commercial, accounting, and employment-related matters before federal and state courts, and represents clients in securities and regulatory investigations, arbitrations, and enforcement actions. He represents New York-based businesses, their founders and investors, national and multinational companies, financial institutions and corporations, and individual officers and directors. U.S. and international law firms regularly call on Robert to represent their clients in New York state and federal courts knowing that his effectiveness and commitment match their own. Robert also maintains an active state and federal appellate practice. Robert recently:
- Successfully defended a former officer of Lehman Brothers against claims exceeding $100 million involving multiple securities transactions as part of a reinsurance contract.
- Prevailed before New York’s Commercial Division and New York’s Appellate Division in obtaining dismissal of a $9.5 million lawsuit involving a failed pre-IPO sale of Facebook stock.
- Prevailed before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and the Second Circuit Court of Appeals on a dismissal of securities fraud claims seeking more than $12 million against a Portuguese bank.
Robert was a litigator at Haight, Gardner, Poor & Havens (now Holland & Knight) and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom here he handled securities, corporate, business, accounting, and insurance litigations, as well as investigations and regulatory matters. He clerked for Judge Collins J. Seitz of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
Robert is chair of “Current Developments in Commercial Division Practice,” held annually at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. He is an active member of the City Bar and frequently reviews candidates for the judiciary. He is the former chair of its Litigation Committee.
Before practicing law, Robert was a member of the New York City Emergency Medical Service, and a sergeant in the New York City Police Department serving in various enforcement, administrative, legal, and legislative assignments. In addition to his business and commercial practice, Robert has significant experience representing injured clients in serious personal injury, medical malpractice, and wrongful death cases and, is especially focused on assisting injured police officers, first responders, and their families.
